AKC Standards of the Pekingese

SKULL: Massive, broad, flat (not domed) between the ears. 
EARS: heart-shaped, drooping, not set too high, ear itself never falling below the chin. 
EYES: large, round, dark. Nose: black, broad, very short and flat. 
MUZZLE: short and wide, no overshoots, no teeth must show. 
BODY: Well built and stocky in front and tapering off towards hindquarters, back lever (not dipping). 
LEGS: short, bowed front legs. 
WEIGHT: Three categories; under 6 lbs, 6-8 lbs, and 8-14 lbs. Coat should be long, straight and coarse. 
COLOR: red, fawn, black, black and tan, brindle, white, and parti-color.
